Today a simple treatment called sclerotherapy is successfully being used to correct unwanted thread veins of the legs.Thousands of people who have felt self-concious or embarrassed by unsightly thread veins of the legs are delighted with the results they are getting from this treatment
Sclerothrapy is a procedure in which a practitioner using a syringe with a tiny needle, injects a small amount of sclerosing agent into the enlarged capilliary. The sclerosing agent displaces the blood within the vein, making it blanch or turn white. This solution then causes the vessel to become irritated, and to close, preventing the blood from re-entering the vein.
The thread veins will gradually fade and within 2 to 8 weeks following traetment some will disappear completely. However, some areas may require several injections to achieve optimum results.Following each treatment the practitioner will suggest the wearing of support tights for approximately 1 week.
Patients who have had sclerotherapy have reported little discomfort. Some experience a slight to modest burning sensation immediately after the injection, but this lasts literally only a few seconds.
Most patients experience no adverse effects, though some minor side effects have been reported. These include slight swelling, which occurs as a reaction to the injection. This invariably subsides over 2 to 3 days. Swelling sometimes develops when veins in the lower leg or ankle are involved. Although not dangerous, the swelling should be treated at home with elevation.
Occasionally a small, dark area of pigmentation, resembling a freckle may remain. These spots usually disappear spontaneously or respond to treatment with bleaching agents if necessary.Bruising around the treated area can occur but will disappear within 2 to 14 days. Swelling occasionally occurs particularly in those patients whose jobs require them to stand or to sit for long periods of time.
No one has determined for certain why some people are effected by thread veins and others not. However, some families seem predisposed to the condition. Trauma to the leg in the form of blows or falls may contribute to the formation of these veins, and long periods of standing or sitting may also be factors. More women than men seem to develop this condition, perhaps as a result of normal changes, such as the contraceptive pill and pregnancy, or because of hormones.
Scienists have not discovered any clear-cut methods to prevent the onset of thread veins. However some authorities believe that the use of support tights, weight control and exercise may be beneficial
The cost of sclerotherapy varies and is directly related to the amount of time the practitioner must spend at each treatment session, and of course, to the number of sessions required to complete the treatment. However, because sclerotherapy is non-surgical the cost compares very favourably with say, the surgical removal of varicose veins.
At Inches treatment for Sclerotherapy is administered by a professionally qualified aesthetic nurse.
